Ennerdale Bridge in Hull to shut overnight for essential investigations

Motorists are being urged to plan their journey ahead of time

Ennerdale Bridge is set to close for two nights next week for essential investigations.

Earlier this year, a fault was detected on the bridge located on Raich Carter Way, affecting one of its lifting spans. To identify and rectify the issue, necessary investigations will now get underway.

Overnight closures will be implemented on Raich Carter Way on Wednesday 11 September and Thursday 12 September from 10pm to 6am the following day. A diversion route will be signposted for motorists. Motorists are being encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time and consider alternative transport options if possible.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways, said: “We understand that this is a popular route for motorists, but it is crucial that these investigations are conducted, and that the fault is located, to maintain a safe and reliable transport link for residents, commuters, and visitors.

“While I recognise the inconvenience caused by these closures, I appreciate that they are scheduled overnight to minimise disruption. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone in advance for their patience and support.”

The council will work in collaboration with Fairfield Engineering Solutions and Rexroth, the hydraulic system manufacturer, to conduct the investigations.
