East Riding of Yorkshire Council has allocated £20,000, provided through the UK government’s Household Support Fund, to fund adult financial literacy courses.

The East Riding Adult Learning and Employability service will provide ‘Let’s Talk Money’ courses, with the Multiply Numeracy scheme, for individuals without a Level 2 maths qualification.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Adult Learning service offers a variety of support, including qualifications and numeracy skills enhancement.

‘Let’s Talk Money’ will help residents gain a better understanding of their finances. It will be available in Beverley, Bridlington, Cottingham, Goole, and other locations across the East Riding, including the Mobile Adult Learning Centre.

Nigel Nichols, Contract Manager for Multiply, stated, “Thanks to the funding from Multiply and the Household Support Fund, we can provide sessions that empower residents. We help them manage their money, budget effectively, access benefits and advice, compare energy providers, navigate unsecured debt, and maintain a healthy diet without overspending.”

‘Let’s Talk Money’ consists of four individual three-hour sessions. Eligible participants are those without a Level 2 maths qualification or those working below a Level 2 proficiency.

Councillor Anne Handley, East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader said, “East Riding Adult Services provide vital learning opportunities, and the financial literacy courses can play an invaluable role in helping people manage their money and improve their skills. I encourage interested residents to sign up and take advantage of the courses on offer.

The sessions will start from January 2025 and are open for residents to sign up to join.
