A MAJOR road route in and out of Beverley has been named as the worst for drivers ignoring speed limits. According to Safer Roads Humber more than 4,000 drivers every day ignore the 40mph speed limit on the dual carriageway stretch of the A164 between the Waitrose roundabout and Castle Hill. THE AVERAGE number of deaths across the area is still rising, even after the Coronavirus pandemic has receded, East Riding Council’s Health and Wellbeing Board was told. Members heard average yearly deaths were around 4,500 according to the latest data, compared to pre-pandemic averages of between 3,500 and 3,700. ONE OF East Yorkshire’s most familiar landmarks, Skidby Mill, will reopen on Saturday – but still without its sails.The mill has been closed since the spring after a member of staff left, but the mill’s owner, East Riding Council, has now recruited. A CRACKDOWN on drink and drug driving by Humberside Police led to 650 roadside tests being carried out and a total of 21 arrests - 11 for drink driving and 10 for failed drug wipes.
