Planning councillors are being asked to approve proposals for a massive solar farm to cover five fields off Main Road in Routh. If given the go-ahead, a total of 87,000 solar panels will be erected on 185 acres of agricultural land at Field House Farm. 

Albanwise Synergy Ltd, part of the Albanwise Wallace Estates Group, based in Hertfordshire, is one of the UK’s largest arable farming and property businesses and say they want to build the 40MW farm with 40MW battery storage, which would comprise 87,000 south-facing solar panels, around 3m (9ft 10in) high, with access tracks, underground cabling, battery storage units and perimeter fences. The site would be accessed from a private road off the A1035.

There will be no trains between Beverley and Hull across the Easter weekend, starting Saturday April 16 through to the end of Easter Monday because of track works at Paragon Station. Outgoing services from Hull to Goole and Selby are also affected and replacement bus services will run throughout the three days.

And finally, we will have to endure higher temperatures on three consecutive days before we’re allowed to call it a heatwave; that’s according to the Met Office. They said they are responding to global warming by setting new “heatwave thresholds” in a number of counties, including East Yorkshire. Here, the temperature will need to reach 26C on three consecutive days before its officially declared a heatwave. Previously the threshold figure was 25C.
