EMERGENCY aid worth more than £5 million has been sent to Ukraine from Beverley since Russia invaded the country in February. The humanitarian effort is the work of local charity Jacob’s Well, who continue to keep up their efforts at the rate of two truck-loads of aid each week, with help going to more than 100 hospitals and clinics.

In costs £5,000 per truck and this week Jacob’s Well revealed they are fast running out of money received in donations for its Ukrainian appeal. “By the end of July we will have spent all the money that we have received so far for Ukraine,” the charity said. This Saturday another of its regular fund-raising charity sales will be held in the driveway of Toll Gavel Church in Beverley from 9am to 3pm. And this Friday Jacob’s Well CEO John Beynon will be a guest on the Morning Mix, here on Beverley FM.

DETECTIVES continue their murder inquiry following the discovery of a woman’s body at a property in Samman Road, Beverley, in the early hours of Monday morning and continue to appeal for anyone who can help that has not already been spoken to, to call the police non-emergency number 101.

As we reported yesterday, a man who “left the scene” died after crashing a car while being chased by police. His Volkswagen Polo crashed into a Ford Transit van and the man driving the van was taken to hospital with serious and potentially life-changing injuries and remains in hospital. No further details have been released at this stage.

A RACE with a difference took place yesterday as part of Afternoon Racing on The Westwood. It was the annual running of the “Bark De Triomph” scenep-setter, when jockeys’ dogs competed in aid of the York Voluntary Fund-Raising Group of Antibiotic Research UK
