ON A NIGHT when 41 per cent of Conservative MPs expressed no confidence in Boris Johnson, Beverley MP Graham Stuart expressed his full support for the Prime Minister. He was amongst the 211 Tory MPs who voted in his favour with 148 against.

In a statement issued as MPs prepared to vote, he said: “The Prime Minister has my full support,” saying “he has led us admirably through a series of unprecedented challenges”. He continued: “Now is not the time for a change of leader; instead it is a time to Build Back Better for all regions of the United Kingdom. We must continue our work to ‘level up’ our country, improve our energy security and take advantage of the opportunities that Brexit offers us.”

THE CORONAVIRUS situation has greatly improved in the East Riding but around one in 50 are still thought to be infected, the council’s public health boss has said. Public Health Director Andy Kingdom added that falls in infections, hospital patients with coronavirus and staff absences due to catching it were expected to continue but autumn could see cases rise again.

As of yesterday, a total of 81 coronavirus patients were in Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill hospitals with one person in intensive care, according to NHS figures. The latest figure for the rate of infection in the East Riding was 59.4 cases per 100,000 people. And the East Riding’s death toll from Coronavirus stood at 1,097 as of Wednesday, June 1.
