A LONG TALKED-about proposal to upgrade the Jock’s Lodge junction on the A164 in Beverley is one of 86 road schemes which the Government has announced will be started as soon as possible – the vast majority will see construction work start by the end of 2023, it says.

The Government has also confirmed it’s in early discussions with East Riding Council as one of 38 local authorities throughout the country where investment zones could be established.

BEVERLEY businesses have made a strong showing in this year’s Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards, organised by Visit Hull and East Yorkshire, which will be presented next month. The shortlist of finalists in the 16 categories includes Newbegin House, Beverley, in the Remarkable B&B and Guesthouse of the Year category and Butt Farm for Remarkable Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the year.

Laurel Vines Vineyard at Aike, just outside of Beverley, is shortlisted in two categories – for Ethical and Sustainable Tourism and Best Local Producer – the latter category also includes Staal Smokehouse of Long Riston.

Pasture House Holiday Cottages at Brandesburton is shortlisted as New Tourism Business of the Year and is also among those vying to be named Best Self-Catering Accommodation, along with Broadgate Farm Cottages at Walkington.

Atom Bar in New Walkergate is a Pub of the Year finalist while Beverley Puppet Festival is one of seven events shortlisted to win the Tourism Event of the Year award. Finally, the “What Was Here” app from East Riding Council, which allows you to travel back in time to view old photos from the locations where they were taken is shortlisted in the Remarkable Tourism Experience category.
