A seven-year-old Beverley boy who had his hair cut off for charity has raised more than £9,000 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Hull Women and Children’s Hospital. As previously reported by Beverley FM, Jack Jowitt donated his locks to the Little Princess Trust at an event at the Moulders Arms pub. The Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer.

Jack has since handed over a cheque for £9,265 to the Neonatal Unit. He decided to shed his locks in honour of his friend, Riley Ketley, who was planning a similar gesture before his tragic death involving a collision with a car near his home in Molescroft a year ago. Riley had wanted to raise money for the unit in memory of his baby cousins, who had sadly died.

Beverley Treasure House is hosting a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Display with a collection of objects that mark and celebrate Royal coronations and jubilees, weddings and Royal family visits to the East Riding. It  includes everything from commemorative silverware and medals to programmes and model buses. Items on display cover the reigns of monarchs from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II. The display will be on view in Gallery One of the Treasure House until August 31.

Molescroft Beverley Petanque Club is planning an open day next month to celebrate the opening of the club’s extended playing surface, thanks to grants from East Riding Council and Molescroft Parish Council. The event, at Molescroft Pavilion, is on Sunday May 15, from, 10am to 3pm and is a chance for people to find out more and try their hand at the French game.
