People across the East Riding are being invited to share their thoughts about where they live as part of a consultation which will go towards creating new design guidance for future planning developments. 

According to East Riding Council, the aim of the guide is to preserve the unique identity and character of towns and villages, ensuring new developments and planning applications reflect the style of the area. When produced, the guide will act as a point of reference for those submitting future applications as it will detail what needs to be considered before planning permission is granted.

Although the popular exhibition, “Reflections of Japan in East Yorkshire”, is closing this Saturday (March 26) at Beverley Art Gallery, it’s not the end of the line for a stunning collection of more than 250 Japanese toys contributed to the exhibition by local collector Jane Irisa, which will be going to the Oriental Museum of Durham University.

Jane told Beverley FM: “I hope that children (and grown-ups) of the future will be able to enjoy the beauty, charm and character of Japanese folk toys for many years to come.”

And finally, more than 100 young people will be taking part in this weekend’s Night Challenge, organised by the Community Safety Unit at Humberside Police, who work with local organisations, including the Defence School of Transport at Leconfield. It involves walking nearly 12 miles whilst completing a series of thought-provoking challenges along the way.
