FOR the second day running, rail services on the Hull to Scarborough line have been cancelled because of the severe weather conditions. The situation is due to be reviewed tomorrow morning and any tickets bought in advance for yesterday or today can be used on Wednesday if services resume.
Hull Trains have also announced no services will run today to or from London and elsewhere on the system services are subject to cancellations and delays. The advice remains to only travel where absolutely necessary and to check whether trains are running before setting out. BIN WORKERS at East Riding Council started work an hour early today to cope with record hot weather. An East Riding Council spokesperson said refuse workers started their shifts at 6am rather than the usual 7am to avoid the hottest part of the day. The council spokesperson said refuse staff were also allowed to wear shorts and were being supplied with sun cream.

THE LATEST recipients of community grants from Beverley’s Tesco store have been announced. £1,000 has gone to the First Cherry Burton Scout Group for its “great outdoors” project, while the charity Groundwork Yorkshire received £500 for its “cooking on a budget” project for families in the area.
In receiving the cheque, Groundwork Project Manager Karen Tozer said: “Through this project we will be able to support local people in and around the Beverley area by building both their cooking skills and their confidence to cook healthy, affordable meals from scratch using fresh seasonal ingredients.”
