THE BEVERLEY-based East Yorkshire Foodbank has launched a £20,000 Just Giving appeal in a bid to replace its ageing delivery van, which this week topped 100,000 miles. The food bank, which has sessions in Beverley on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays and in Bridlington and Hornsea on other days helped almost 3,500 people last year with three-day emergency food supplies.
Just Giving Appeal to buy new food bank delivery van
A spokesperson told Beverley FM: “Our little van has served us well but the increase in need for our service has taken its toll. Sadly the need for food banks is on the increase and we do not see that changing soon. We are committed to helping local people facing crisis whether they are in a town or a village and that means delivery, whether to a centre or someone’s home, is core to our service. Please help us buy a van to take away the pangs of hunger.”

BEVERLEY’S Parkway Cinema will be hosting special screenings where admission will be two cans of food per person, which will be donated to the East Yorkshire Foodbank. General manager Cliff Bailey told us: “We launched our Cans Film Festival last year, and it was a great success. Sadly, food banks continue to need support more than ever, and we want to help the community in a fun and unique way.”
Film choices are the smash-hit Disney film Encanto on Sunday May 22 at 11am and a special Yorkshire archive film, called Seen To Be Believed on May 26, May 30 and June 2. This new curated film takes an affectionate look at how the people of Yorkshire and the North East celebrated Coronations, Jubilees and Royal Visits through the decades – a chance to take a look through the lens at street parties and pageants, bunting, banners and flag waving, and hear what the Royal Family – The Queen in particular – means to the people of our region.
All footage in the film was made solely by Yorkshire and North East filmmakers, both amateur and professional and is 60 minutes long.
Tickets can only be collected in person at the cinema with your donation. Donations will be accepted during box office hours from Monday 16th May onwards to secure tickets in advance. The cans that would be most appreciated by the foodbank are tinned fruit, custard, rice pudding and vegetables.
EAST YORKSHIRE BUSES will introduce new tickets and fares from this Sunday, including a Beverley “app only” zone, which offers wider travel options for a single daily, weekly or monthly fare.
