Ninety-seven per cent of all Year 6 children in the East Riding have been allocated their first choice of secondary school ahead of the start of the next school year, in September. That’s according to East Riding Council, who told Beverley FM that of the 3,389 applications received, 3,287 children (or 97 per cent) will start at their preferred school – a slight increase over last year. 

Only 28 children were unable to have a place allocated at any school named as their preference and of these, 12 children have been allocated places at their catchment area schools and 16 at the nearest East Riding school with a place available.

Government Digital Minister Chris Philip is in East Yorkshire today to launch a new campaign aiming to equip people for the region’s digital jobs boom, ensuring more residents can benefit from the thriving local tech sector. It coincides with new data released today which names Hull and East Yorkshire as the UK’s fastest growing region for digital jobs and comes at the completion of a project to connect a raft of primary schools in the East Riding with high speed and ultra-reliable gigabit broadband. 

And finally, Beverley FM Breakfast Show presenter Alex Dunn is to compere Beverley Mayor Linda Johnson’s “Party In Pink” event to raise money for the charity HER Breast Friends. It takes place in the Memorial Hall on Saturday April 2, with tickets costing £15. Those attending are being encouraged to dress in pink.
