THE RSPCA has launched an investigation after a greyhound was found dead in Beverley Beck with a sandbag attached to her neck by a length of rope. The dog was recovered from the water close to where the Beck meets the River Hull by a local animal volunteer, who had been alerted by a social media post on a “missing and found pets” page.

The horrific incident is said to have happened on the evening of Friday June 17 and the RSPCA is now trying to locate two men who may hold vital information that could help their investigation. RSPCA Inspector Tom Hutton said the two men had been seen driving a white flatbed van and it’s thought they are known as “Nick” and “Bozza”. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018.

BISHOP Burton College student Kieran Woodall is celebrating after being awarded a Diana Award, named after Diana, Princess of Wales, for his services as a Covid vaccination volunteer during the pandemic. Kieran, from Driffield was nominated after volunteering over 800 hours in support of the nationwide Covid vaccination programme. This is the most hours volunteered by an under-18 in the country.

A BAG sorting trial has been rolled out to five more recycling sites in the East Riding, including Beverley, thanks to residents making it a success. A sorting table is provided, with gloves, a litter picker, paper towels and anti-bacterial handwash. Staff direct residents with bags or boxes of waste to visit the table so they can sort through their own waste.

During the trial at the Driffield site, the bag sorting area resulted in more than six tonnes of waste being diverted to recycling containers, which would otherwise have gone into the general waste skip.
