A NEW consultation about the Saturday Market trial pedestrianisation scheme in Beverley is being carried out by East Riding Council. A previous survey in November showed 328 people (56 per cent of those questioned) were in favour of the scheme, saying it had made it easier and/or more enjoyable to walk around Saturday Market.

As a result, the council is proposing to trial a revised layout for the pedestrian area from November, when the existing trial finishes, with two options: The first provides a good-sized pedestrian area with an additional blue badge space created in place of an existing pay & display space. Option 2 provides a significantly smaller pedestrian area space to create four more blue badge holder spaces in place of three pay & display spaces.

The existing planters would be used during a second trial to temporarily outline the new pedestrian area, although it is the intention to replace these with removable bollards if the scheme is made permanent. The consultation will be with businesses and residents who live in the vicinity of Saturday Market with a closing date for comments of August 26.

Beverley Town Councillors will discuss the proposals at their meeting next Monday Full details on the plans and the survey here:  https://consultation.eastriding.gov.uk/s/SaturdayMarketPAT/

BEVERLEY Building Society says it is closely monitoring the situation since the Bank of England announced the latest increase in its base rate from 1.25 to 1.75% and says it will provide further information regarding any impact on its mortgage and savings rates in due course.
