THREE MORE good causes have benefitted from donations totalling £3,000 from the Tesco Beverley Grants Scheme. Beverley Manor Nursery School received £1,500 for the Beverley Food Pantry, the East Yorkshire Hygiene Bank received £1,000 to help provide hygiene products for those who cannot afford them and Woodmansey Primary School received £500 for their mental health and wellbeing resources project for their pupils.

Tesco Community Champion Dave Riley presents the cheque to East Yorkshire Hygiene Bank

Hygiene Bank founder and co-ordinator Jackie Heffer told Beverley FM: “The hygiene bank works in partnership with our local food bank and the community pantry in the East Riding. Many families have had to go without toiletries in order to buy food and this can have a detrimental effect on their mental health and well being.”

She continued: “With the current cost of living crisis, our support is more important than ever as it is a very stressful time for so many people. We are also supported by collections held in Boots and Boyes, in addition to our own fundraisers.”

Tesco’s Community Grants Scheme is currently open for applications from food banks, schools, holiday clubs, sports clubs, charities and community groups. Contact Dave Ryley, Tesco Beverley’s Community Champion: 07871 572742 / beverley.community@tesco.com if you would like more information. A NEW East Riding Council-funded bus service is to start next month linking Withernsea and Beverley, and the villages in between. Service 243 will run on Tuesdays only from September 6, operated by North Holderness Community Transport.

The bus will leave Withernsea at 9.30am, calling at Roos, Burton Pidsea, Lelley, Sproatley, Aldbrough, Withernwick, Rise and Routh arriving at Beverley Bus Station at 11am. The return journey leaves Beverley Bus Station at 1.15pm.

There will also be changes to a contracted bus service from next month: Service 180 Beverley – Walkington – Cottingham and Castle Hill Hospital will see Stagecoach East Midlands take over the operation from Acklams Coaches from September 5.
