A new play about the life of Beverley artists Fred and Mary Elwell has peaked renewed interest in the collection of their work at the art gallery in the Treasure House. East Riding council Museum and Archives manager, Nial Adams, told Beverley FM that writer Gordon Meredith’s play – ‘Paint the Town Fred’ has stimulated the interest of audiences at East Riding Theatre. He added that the Elwells made a huge contribution fort putting Beverley on the world map for art. Beverley Art Gallery hosts the world’s largest collection of Elwell originals, and they are on permanent display in the Red Gallery on the first floor of the Treasure House. East Riding Council has teamed up with Backfire Promotions to bring A Theatre of Automation to East Yorkshire this weekend. Race the Waves is described as a unique free family event within the UK motoring calendar.  It takes place on Bridlington’s South Beach where American and vintage style hot-rod vehicles and motorcycles will Race the Waves along the beach in pairs from a flagged start. Running alongside the event is the Steampunk Emporium inside The Royal Hall within Bridlington Spa with static displays of vintage and classic motorcycles and scooters, exhibitors of steampunk, retro, vintage, goth and automotive memorabilia.
