BEVERLEY councillor Denis Healy is floating the idea of replicating the hugely-successful day of celebrations held in Beverley on Friday for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as an annual Big Beverley Bash. And since his idea first appeared on Facebook more than 130 people have supported his suggestion.

He said: “It was an amazing day in Beverley. I would be interested to know what people think about the idea of having a Big Beverley Bash like this every year, maybe on a bank holiday. It wouldn’t be a Jubilee, but a coming together of the town each year to celebrate our town and party together.”

A FREE MEALS initiative over the past nine days at the Masonic Hall in Beverley, coinciding with the half-term holidays, saw more than 1,000 meals served up to those struggling and in need. Ben Yorks, of the Freemasons, said on Facebook: “There are so many people to thank; our members and their wives and partners; too many to name here as 25 different people staffed the kitchen across the nine days, and the non-members that attended every day to help us.”

FIVE home-owners in North Bar Without, Beverley, are opening their walled gardens to the public later this month under the National Gardens Scheme. People pay just £5 to visit all five gardens, with children going free, The event, on Sunday June 19 will raise money for the NGS, which has given more than £63 million over the years for nursing and health charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie. Refreshments will be on sale at one of the properties, with proceeds donated to St Mary’s Church.
