Millwall 0-0 Hull City

Ten-man Hull City defended resolutely at the Den after playing out a goalless draw against Millwall.

Óscar Estupiñán was sent off in the first half as the Tigers battled hard to record their 1,200th draw in the EFL Championship.

Liam Rosenior made three changes to the starting XI to the one that faced Middlesbrough last time out. Dimitrios Pelkas started ahead of Ozan Tufan, while Alfie Jones replaced Brandon Fleming in defence. Ryan Longman, who made his 50th Hull City appearance, was the other change for Greg Docherty in Rosenior’s first game in charge.

The hosts looked to make an early start as a short corner routine saw Scott Malone tee the ball up for Zian Flemming, but his strike deflected behind before Millwall headed wide from the resulting corner.

On nine minutes, after an initial exchange between Ryan Woods and Cyrus Christie saw the ball deep in Millwall territory, the Tigers won possession high up the pitch as Óscar Estupiñán took aim. However, his left-footed curling strike was beaten away by George Long before the ex-Hull City goalkeeper held a later cross from Jacob Greaves.

Jake Cooper headed wide from a delivery from the right wing before Flemming delivered an almost perfect cross for Tom Bradshaw to convert at the front post after he initially evaded his marker with a great bit of skill. At the other end, Long had to push Longman’s floating cross over the bar.

From the resulting corner, Jean Michaël Seri took aim from range, which was blocked. The rebound found Woods who drilled it towards goal as Longman looked to divert it into the net, but his flicked effort was well watched by Long.

Flemming flashed a free-kick narrowly wide from 25-yards out before the attacking midfielder almost finished off a great team move, but Nathan Baxter was sharp to deny the opener.

On the 37th minute, the Tigers were reduced to 10 men as Estupiñán lead high with his foot on Charlie Cresswell, with referee John Busby showing the Colombian forward a straight red card.

Moments before half-time, Danny McNamara blazed over from range before Pelka couldn’t divert Christie’s delivery goalwards as the first half ended goalless.
