A BEVERLEY mother was repeatedly stabbed before the man believed to have killed her died in a crash as he fled police, an inquest in Hull heard. Becci Rees-Hughes, 37, also suffered head trauma in the incident at a house in Samman Road, Hull Coroner’s Court was told. 

At the opening of the inquest into her death, the coroner Prof Paul Marks heard that Ms Rees-Hughes’ body was found after her partner, Ben Crosby, called his parents early on the morning of Monday, July 25. He later died when his car crashed into a van on the A1034 near Hornsea following a short police pursuit. 

Det Chief Insp Allan Curtis told the hearing police believed it was a domestic violence-related incident. He said there were no other suspects in the case. A full coroner’s investigation will now be carried out into both deaths.

BUDGET hotel chain Travelodge is looking at 16 sites in the North-East, including Beverley, as part of expansion plans. The company, which runs more than 590 hotels, revealed the move as it officially opened its first new-build budget luxe hotel in Hexham. Beverley, along with Bridlington and Grimsby/Cleethorpes, were among the 16 sites identified.

BISHOP Burton College has paid tribute to student Aaron Bell after the 18-year-old’s death in a car crash. Aaron, who lived near Masham, was studying sport at the college and was part of their rugby academy. He died on Friday night along with two friends when a car driven by an 18-year-old man who was seriously injured crashed on Masham Road, near Thornton Watlass. 

The college said: “Aaron was a popular member of our rugby academy and was the very personification of all the values we continue to adhere to as a sports programme. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron’s family at this very sad time.”
