Director and head chef Gary Chin, with colleague Scott, were competing against four other restaurants and had to serve up dishes in three different rounds to takeaway-loving families as well as players from a Manchester rugby club. Chicken Pad Thai, Singapore Chow Mein and a Thai Red Tofu Curry all scored high marks and Gary and Scott led the scoreboard at each stage, finishing with a total of 24 points.

Sumo, which opened at Flemingate in 2018, and its sister restaurant in Hessle, offers Thai, Chinese, Korean and Japanese dishes to eat in or take away. The episode can be watched here

MOLESCROFT Parish Council has presented local resident Maureen Morris with a Millennium Award in recognition of her litter-picking efforts. She became only the ninth recipient of the award over the past 22 years.

Maureen was nominated by Cllr Elaine Aird, who said: “Mrs Morris has shown amazing community spirit over the years tidying up the area near Molescroft shops. Each day this wonderful resident takes it upon herself to clean up, ensuring the rest of us benefit from her efforts.”

THERE’S a vacancy on Cherry Burton Parish Council following the resignation of a sitting member. The vacancy will be filled by co-option unless at least 10 electors demand a by-election by the deadline of June 9.
