ANOTHER warning of a possible hosepipe ban by Yorkshire Water has followed the news that reservoir levels in the county are now below 50 per cent – a fifth lower than normal at this time of year. River levels also remain low.

Despite reports of leaked Environment Agency documents in The Guardian newspaper, showing Yorkshire Water has applied for a drought permit allowing them to bring in a ban, a company spokesperson denied any such application had yet to be made, but warned that a hosepipe ban is under consideration.

PLANNING councillors will be recommended to approve construction of an asphalt plant on land at the junction of Bridlington Road and Catfoss Lane, Brandesburton, despite objections from 418 people over emissions and pollution concerns and increased traffic congestion.

East Riding Council’s planning committee will also hear about strong objections from Brandesburton, Leven, North Frodingham and Catfoss parish councils and one from East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight, who said the development will have a significant detrimental effect on the local area through noise, smells and pollution.

However, Thursday’s meeting of the planning committee will receive an officers’ report recommending the plan be approved, saying there are no grounds for refusal, including any impact to living conditions.
