Households are being urged by East Riding Council to set up a Council Tax direct debit to make it easier for them to receive the Government’s £150 energy rebate. Most households in bands A to D are eligible. 

Currently, around 100,000 households already have a direct debit in place and Cllr John Holtby, the council’s deputy leader, told Beverley FM: “We are urging households who do not pay by direct debit to set one up today; this is the simplest and easiest way to allow the council to pay your £150 Council Tax energy rebate.” And he continued: “If you do not set up a direct debit, the council will contact you in April requesting that you complete an application form.”

All taxis in East Yorkshire are to be fitted with CCTV cameras in a bid to improve driver and passenger safety. A voluntary CCTV scheme was introduced by East Riding Council in 2016 which saw cameras installed in 199 cabs, but it will now be mandatory. The authority will pay £160,000 to fit the equipment in the remaining third of taxis that do not yet have it. And councillors heard that so far, taxi CCTV footage had been used 53 times in police and County Hall investigations.
