“It was a pleasing night for us” These we’re the thoughts of Chris Bolder as his North Ferriby side picked up their first win of preseason against League Two side Grimsby Town. A first-half header from Oli Donald the difference between the two sides.

The first half was controlled by the Villagers who looked more dangerous and created more opportunities. Tom Corner went close with a header that was saved comfortably by Ollie Battersby. The Villagers found a lot of joy through Danny Earl and his ability to get behind the Grimsby defence. The Ferriby attacker saw his first effort of the half saved.

The visitors were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, the effort went just wide of Lewis Exall’s goal, in which was Grimsby’s best chance of the half.

A great ball from the left-hand side found Josh Dennett to the right-hand side of the penalty box. The right-back headed goal-wards but his header was saved by Battersby. Danny Earl once again broke through behind the Grimsby defence. He received the ball in his own half and drove towards goal. Earl was chased by a Grimsby defender and Earl hit his shot from out the area, but his shot was saved by Battersby.

The opening goal came through Oli Donald. Jamie Forrester took a free kick from a wide position. The free kick was met by Niall Tilsley who headed back across the goal and his partner at the heart of the Ferriby defence headed past Battersby.

The second half didn’t produce the same level of attempts on goal for either side.

The had an early chance through Tom Corner, but his attempt on the turn was gathered by Battersby.

Chris Bolder made several changes throughout the half, to give his squad minutes.

Oli Donald had the game’s last opportunity has he headed wide from a corner late in the game.

“It’s always nice to get the victory but there’s other objectives we need to focus on in preseason and tonight was a culmination of all that we’ve seen building up so far in the games previously. We started to see a lot more consistency from a team perspective. It was a pleasing night for us”.
