DRIFFIELD TOWN CC WIN YORKSHIRE PREMIER LEAGUE NORTH. York’s defeat at Castleford sealed the title for Sam Drury’s side.

Our friends at Driffield & Wolds weekly newspaper have very kindly allowed us to use their post on the momentous occasion for Driffield Town Cricket Club.

Driffield Town Cricket Club have won the Yorkshire Premier League North title for the first time in the club’s history.

The Woldsmen have enjoyed a fantastic season just one year after surviving relegation on the final day of the 2021 campaign. They looked on course for a routine victory earlier today after dismissing Clifton Alliance for just 125. However, the title win looked in jeopardy when Sam Drury’s side were bowled out for 116 but crucially earned four bonus points.

The attention switched to Castleford, where Driffield’s nearest rivals York were taking on the hosts.
Castleford made 189 before being bowled out in the 48th. At 55-2, York looked in control and on course to go two points behind Driffield with one game remaining. But the game turned on its head and spun in Castleford’s favour.

The home side took the final wicket to bowl out York for 94, sparking scenes of elation at Kings Mill Road.

See next Tuesday 6th September edition of the Wolds Weekly for more reaction.
