A NEW sub-strain of the coronavirus Omicron variant is driving a spike in cases in Hull and the East Riding, the latest figures indicate. A total of 644 new cases were recorded in the East Riding in the seven days up to Sunday, June 26, up by 21.1 per cent. The infection rate was 187.6 cases per 100,000 people.
