A Beverley Memory Museum opens in The Guildhall today, showing audio-visual presentations aimed at stimulating people’s memories of Beverley, and starting with a specially-created video; “Memories of Hodgson’s Tannery”. It features the voices of several people who worked there, as well as many photographs and excerpts from a local history film called “Romance of Leather”. The 25 minute film will run on a loop throughout the day, so there is no need to book.

The exhibition will run until July 1. The Guildhall is open from 10am to 4pm every Friday and 10am to 1pm every Wednesday.

Tourism Agency Welcome To Yorkshire has gone into administration following a decision by council leaders across the county, including East Riding Council, that they would no longer fund its work. Money from East Riding of Yorkshire Council has, in the past, helped bring the Tour de Yorkshire to Beverley.

Cllr Jonathan Owen, leader of ERYC, told Beverley FM: “Welcome to Yorkshire has played a pivotal role over the last decade, enabling us to bring high profile sporting events to the region.” He continued: “A lot has changed over the years and the stakeholders have unanimously agreed that a new approach is needed. The council supports the principle of developing a new regional organisation”.

And finally, Beverley’s Parkway Cinema has announced it is cancelling all of its Bolshoi Ballet screenings for the foreseeable future. The gesture is being made to stand in solidarity with other institutions against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
