Parish councils in Brandesburton and Leven are objecting to plans for 50 new homes on land off Starcarr Lane, Brandesburton, currently housing a pig farm and land used for caravan storage and skip hire. The land isn’t currently allocated for housing in the Local Plan; however East Riding of Yorkshire Council officers are recommending the plans are approved at a meeting next Thursday.

Brandesburton Parish Council says the village has nearly met its target of 60 new house builds, with another five years to run of the Local Plan. There’s another development site on New Road, earmarked for another 135 homes. And they’ve expressed concerns about the impact on the GP surgery at Leven, on the sewerage system and on busy roads. Leven Parish Council is also objecting, expressing concern about surface water run off feeding into watercourses that flooded in 2007.

Holme Church Lane in Beverley was closed for a short time last night after fire broke out in a house. Police and fire crews attended shortly after 5pm but later reported the fire had been put out and no one at the scene had suffered any harmful effects.

And finally, Bishop Burton College is preparing to welcome the public to its annual spring lambing event on Sunday March 20 – an event that has had to be cancelled in the past two years because of the pandemic. A spokesman told Beverley FM: “We’ll be throwing open the gates to the campus, with plenty of activities to make sure you and your family have an amazing day. Head to the farm to see our new arrivals, tackle an obstacle course, watch some barrel racing or get up close to our creepy crawlies!”
