Major Beverley route to temporarily reopen over Christmas

There will be a break on work to the Jock’s Lodge improvement scheme

A major Beverley road will reopen over the festive period as work takes a break on the £86.9m Jock’s Lodge improvement scheme.

The westbound A164 Lincoln Way/Minster Way between Victoria/ Morrisons roundabout and the Ward Way roundabout will be temporarily open to traffic from 6am on Thursday, December 19 until 6am on Monday, January 6. A spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) told the BBC the restrictions will be removed “while our project team takes a festive break”, adding the area around Minster Way and Lincoln Way “will be left in a safe condition before the Christmas shut down”.

The half-mile stretch has been closed to westbound traffic since October and, aside from the temporary reopening over Christmas, is expected to remain shut until July 2025. The eastbound side has remained open as usual. The A164 and Jock’s Lodge Improvement Scheme is set to be completed in 2026. The project, described as “one of the largest” ever undertaken by ERYC is being carried out by contractor GRAHAM on behalf of the council.

The authority previously said the closures are necessary for the reconstruction of the Lincoln Way roundabout and the realignment of the road as part of the major project to replace the congested Jock’s Lodge junction. This junction connects the A164 Hull to Beverley road and the A1079 Hull to York road – two of the busiest routes in the East Riding. The revamped Lincoln Way roundabout will eventually link to a new roundabout to be built on the A1079, creating a new connection route with Beverley.

A section of the A164 is also set to be expanded into a dual carriageway in an effort to alleviate traffic congestion.
