A Beverley woman who turned her cake-decorating hobby into a prize-winning business is celebrating the launch of a book explaining how to turn your own home-made cakes into works of art. Julie Rogerson broke the news on her Facebook page and says the book, called “Modelling Figures For Cake Toppers” is to be published by The Crowood Press later this month.

Julie told Beverley FM: “I have always loved baking – first as a child with my mum, and then later with my own children. It was only as they grew older that I began to look more at the decorating side of cake making. This new hobby quickly turned into a small, part-time business, which then became my full-time career.”

Julie’s business is called Julie’s Cake In A Box and as well a producing stunning cakes she also runs cake decorating classes from a purpose-built studio at the rear of her home in Nicholson Close, Beverley.

A packed Memorial Hall in Beverley last night witnessed the results of the first election to the UK Youth Parliament. East Riding pupils voted in two “constituencies” and the representative elected for the East area (which includes Beverley) was Freya Edwards, of Driffield School, with Tegan Bromhead, of East Riding College, her deputy. In the West area, Aonpreeya Petchatchua, of South Hunsley School, was the winner, with Thomas Edmonton, of Hymers College, the deputy.

Beverley brother and sister Lucie Parsons, of Beverley High School, and Oliver Parsons, of Beverley Grammar, were among those bidding for election.
