East Riding Libraries shortlisted at National Fantastic for Families Awards

The Fantastic for Families Awards is an annual programme open to UK-based cultural organisations or cultural activity organisers who provide creative opportunities, activities, or initiatives for families and older people.

This year’s shortlist for the Fantastic for Families Awards, organized by Family Arts Campaign, showcases the real innovation, creativity and impact made by cultural opportunities in the UK.

The 2024 shortlist recognises and celebrates the achievements of family arts professionals, through sharing their diverse stories from across the arts spectrum. Their work supports communities and participants including young people struggling with mental health and wellbeing, families with no access to green spaces and elders in end-of-life care.

East Riding Libraries have been nominated for their Children’s Festival of Words in 2023, where they hosted multiple events throughout the summer. These included events in Beverley Library in support of Beverley Pride, creating safe spaces through stories for LGBTQ+ families across the East Riding.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: ‘’It is a great honour to be nominated for this prestigious Fantastic for Families Award.

‘’The Children’s Festival of Words was a great a success, bringing our community together to celebrate the arts through a positive and supportive programme of events, shedding a light on artistic contributions which provided a safe space for people within the East Riding.’’

Fantastic For Families Awards are given by Family Arts Campaign, the national Investment Principles Support Organisation for arts engagement and families, funded by Arts Council England.

The winners of the Fantastic For Families 2024 Awards will be announced in an online ceremony on Thursday, 28 November 2024.
