BEVERLEY turned out in force yesterday for a full day of celebrations to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. From North Bar Within, through Saturday Market, Wednesday Market to Flemingate, the town was packed with families and people of all ages enjoying the fun.

The Mayor, Cllr Linda Johnson, with her Consort, Cllr Graham Johnson, was kept busy throughout the day, from opening proceedings from the stage at Flemingate at 10 in the morning, to paying tribute to The Queen’s 70 years of dedicated service at the official welcome in Saturday Market to lighting a candle following the blessing of the Covid 19 Remembrance Tree in Coronation Gardens by the Rev Becky Lumley to the civic procession, where she was joined by the High Sheriff and Deputy Lieutenant of the East Riding and other civic dignitaries.

As the day wore on there was the Jubilee Tea Party in North Bar Within and a flypast by a Hurricane aircraft. And Cllr Johnson said it was such a huge opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate after two years of the pandemic.
