SATURDAY MARKET in Beverley has the highest number of parking fines issued anywhere in the county, according to East Riding Council’s annual parking report. Wardens issued 337 penalty notices in the year ending March this year.

Almost 10,000 tickets were issued across the East Riding, with more than a quarter of them (2,639) in Beverley. Butcher Row car park had 203 fines, while North Bar Within was another hot spot.

ST MARY’S Church, Beverley, opens the Platinum Jubilee celebrations a week tonight (June 2), with a special service at 8pm, followed by the lighting of the Beacon in Coronation gardens at 9.45. The following day activities include vintage games in Coronation Gardens and children’s activities in the church grounds from 1pm. The Rev Becky Lumley will also be leading a Covid Remembrance Service in Coronation Gardens on the 3rd at 12.30pm.

THERE’S A CALL for people in the East Riding to become “Mental Health Champions”, with a free training workshop planned for Beverley Library in June. It’s an initiative from Hull & East Yorkshire Mind in partnership with East Riding Council.

The workshops will enable people to spot signs of poor mental health and enable them to offer support. Lyndsey McClements, of Hull and East Yorkshire Mind said: “One in four people will experience poor mental health every year, but the stigma still attached to mental health creates a barrier to people getting the help they need and deserve. By creating Mental Health Champions, we can move towards a world where no-one has to face a mental health problem alone.”

The Beverley workshop takes place on Wednesday June 15, from 9.30am to 1pm. To book a free place, complete the registration form at www.heymind.org.uk/mhchampions
