ONE OF Beverley’s most unique town centre properties, until recently occupied by local solicitors, is up for sale with a view to it being returned to its original use as a private dwelling. The four-storey, 18th century, property is thought to be Beverley’s tallest habitable building and there is currently a planning application lodged with East Riding Council that would allow it to be restored to its former glory as a five-bedroom town house. 

Tower House and the adjoining Bar House were originally a single dwelling, on a site said to be where King Charles I’s officers met when they were trying to capture Hull, at the start of the English Civil War.  Well known local artists Fred and Mary Elwell  are understood to have lived in the properties.

BEVERLEY Leisure Centre Is launching weekly “gentle exercise” sessions from Thursday next week (May 12) to encourage people to enjoy a healthier lifestyle. “Let’s Get Moving” will run for 10 weeks, with the option of trying a range of different activities such as Boccia (a form of bowls), New Age Kurling, ping pong, seated volleyball, short tennis and badminton. ALTHOUGH most of Britain goes to the polls for local government elections today, staff at East Riding Council have been dealing with a large number of calls from people inquiring why they have not received polling cards. In fact, the next election for East Riding Council is not until next year, on Thursday May 4, 2023. In common with some other authorities, elections for East Riding councillors are held in one go once every four years.
