Hallam 3-1 North Ferriby

North Ferriby Fc suffered a 3-1 defeat at league leaders Hallam. The Villagers took the lead, but a Louis Kirk red card and three Hallam goals were enough for the leaders to extend their lead at the top.

In front of a crowd of 1048, it was the hosts that started the game the brightest. Ferriby struggled to retain possession amidst the pressing from the hosts. Jordan Douglas was called upon early to save from Iren Wilson. The hosts got in behind the Villagers’ backline again and Kieran Watson saw his effort go wide of the near post.

The Villagers went on the offensive and had a chance when Danny Emerton drove with the ball on the right-hand side and his effort from a wide position went over the bar.

The first goal of the game came when Danny East had the ball on the right-hand side. He crossed the ball into the area and found Josh Whiteley. The Ferriby wide man put the ball to Tom Corner whose effort was deflected and found Danny Emerton whose strike trickled into the bottom corner past Myles Wright.

It could have been two-nil to the Villagers when Josh Whiteley has presented a great chance to double his side’s lead but his effort was saved by Wright in the Hallam goal.

The Villagers endured a nightmare five minutes. First, a Hallam corner found a Hallam attacker whose header was goal bound but Louis Kirk blocked the ball with his arm and was sent off and a penalty was awarded to Hallam. Up stepped Liam Royles who sent Jordan Douglas the wrong way. Then, a corner was not cleared well by the Villagers and the ball fell to a wide-open Brandon Bradbury who fired the ball past Jordan Douglas to give the hosts the lead.

The hosts went in search of a third and went close when Brandon Bradbury found himself in space again from a corner but his effort this time was saved by Douglas. Kieran Watson nearly made it three, but he put a header over the bar from close range from a corner.

The second half didn’t have the same intensity as the first half. Hallam were comfortable and made it 3-1 with a brilliant goal from Brandon Bradbury. The Hallam midfielder received the ball a good distance from goal and his shot was not one Jordan Douglas could stop.

Danny Emerton went close in his attempts to get the Villagers back into the game. His effort came after Hallam failed to clear a corner properly. Emerton found the ball just in the area and his shot was saved by Wright. This shot was in the middle of a few Ferriby corners as they searched for a goal.

The hosts had the next effort, but Jordan Douglas saved well from Liam Royles. Royles was played in by Iren Wilson who did well to find his attacking partner.

The rest of the half was quieter with the hosts happy to close the game out and the Villagers unable to find a goal to put themselves back in the game.

The Villagers now sit 6 points behind Hallam with only six games left in the season.

North Ferriby boss Chris Bolder shared his thoughts of the afternoon, “we can’t dwell on this at all, everyone that was here this afternoon sees that the red card changes the game, it’s a decent football match until then. They got in behind us a couple of times in the first five minutes or so and then we started to put ourselves on them and start to cause a few problems. We have a great opportunity to go 2-0 up and then in a few minutes, we concede a penalty, red card, and another goal soon after. It’s one of those things, it happens in football. Slightly disappointing second half from us, we kind of let the game fizzle out a little bit and we didn’t continue to stick to our own principles.”
