Beverley’s Tesco supermarket continues to donate surplus unsold food at the end of each day to local groups and good causes. Since the scheme started in 2016, over 107,000 meals have been donated to local community groups; those currently benefitting are the Beverley Cherry Tree Community Centre, Long Riston Playgroup and the Olio food sharing app.

Tesco’s local Community champion Dave Ryley told Beverley FM the scheme was part of the company’s pledge to cut food waste. And Cherry Tree Centre manager Jo Ramsay told us: ”I want to thank Tesco for the regular weekly food donations. The donations make such a difference to people and families that are struggling with food poverty. We help over 180 people every week and we rely on the food donations to allow us to keep this vital service going.”

Dave revealed the Beverley store still has some nights available for other groups to benefit from the scheme. To register an interest or find out more email him at beverley.community@tesco.com

Back by popular demand, there’s a chance to join artist Esther Cawley for a six-week life drawing course at the Treasure House in Beverley from May 9. Esther will take participants through a variety of figure drawing approaches, working with a model.  All levels of experience are welcome, and all materials will be provided, although participants can bring their own if they prefer. For more information please contact the Treasure House on (01482) 392782.

And finally, World Tai Chi & Qigong Day next Saturday (April 30) sees a free afternoon event at Beverley Leisure Centre; with four 30 minute short taster sessions in both Tai Chi and Qigong: For more information call East Riding Leisure Beverley on 01482 393980.
