Beverley town councillors will be asked to back proposals to create a “Greater Beverley” town council when they meet on Monday. If the plans go ahead it will mean the extended council taking responsibility for Molescroft and parts of Woodmansey, leaving Woodmansey Parish Council to cover the actual village itself.

Having been asked by East Riding Council to consider a Community Governance Review, town councillors are seeking formal ratification of their proposals to create an extended authority. But it adds: “Should Molescroft wish to maintain its identity as a separate parish, we believe there should be a joint Beverley and Molescroft Council, with the Beverley section of that joint council including those southern parts of Beverley which currently fall under Woodmansey.”

Plans to refurbish the 20-year-old skate park at Beverley Leisure Centre are expected to go out for tender following Monday’s council meeting. Firms will have until June 17 to submit bids to do the work. Councillors will be told the skate park is in need of significant redesign, refurbishment and repair.

And finally, Beverley’s MP will be holding one of his regular street surgeries in the town tomorrow. Graham Stuart will be in Toll Gavel between 10am and noon to meet constituents and hear concerns and problems. No appointments are necessary.
