Parents and carers of children due to start infant, junior and primary school schools in September this year have this week found out which school their child has been allocated.  Letters and emails sent out yesterday by East Riding Council revealed that 95.9 per cent of all pupils were allocated their first preference, down slightly on last year. 

98.9 per cent were allocated a place at one of their three choices, meaning only 32 children were offered places elsewhere. The council confirmed that 26 of the 118 primary and infant schools in the East Riding are over-subscribed with 174 children resident in other local authority areas travelling to East Riding schools. All 419 East Riding residents who applied for their children to start Year 3 at a junior school have been allocated places at the school named as their first preference.

East Riding Council is working with the charity Fitmums and Friends to host an introductory Nordic Walking workshop for those living with Parkinson’s and related conditions. The free one-hour workshop will be held at Beverley Leisure Centre on Thursday next week. 

Nordic walking is recognised as excellent exercise for people with Parkinson’s and can help control symptoms and maintain fitness. It works the upper body and lower body simultaneously, and improves strength, posture, stride and stability.
