Beverley and Holderness Conservative MP Graham Stuart has rejected calls for Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak to resign following the announcement they had received fixed penalty fines from the Metropolitan Police in the wake of “Partygate”.

Responding to a letter from the Beverley and Holderness Labour Party, he said: “I understand and share the anger felt by people across the country after many of us made extraordinary personal sacrifices throughout the pandemic to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities.” But he continued: “I do not think this is the time to destabilise UK Government leadership.  We face many threats including the war in Ukraine and rising costs at home.  It is infuriating that rules were broken but our top team has apologised fully and must be allowed to get on with the job.”

The owners of a Beverley gym have been fined £1,000 and ordered to pay costs of £427 by Beverley Magistrates for putting up banners and signs illegally. The court heard a banner was found on street furniture in Beverley Road, Willerby, another on street furniture in Walkergate, Beverley. Streetscene Enforcement Officers also found a sign attached to a signpost in Lord Roberts Road, Beverley, and one attached to a street light in Hillcrest Drive, Beverley.

The Gym Group plc, based in Croydon and operating a gym on the Victoria Retail Park in Beverley, were fined £250 on each of four offences and in addition to costs were also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £100.

And finally, as previously reported by Beverley FM, a pop-up arts and crafts sale takes place in Toll Gavel Church Hall tomorrow, between 10am and 4pm, to raise funds to support Ukrainian refugees. It’s an initiative by more than 100 local artists, photographers and craftspeople who have donated items for sale.
