British Transport Police have stepped up patrols at both Beverley and Cottingham railway stations following an increase in anti-social behaviour, including attacks on staff and attempts to obstruct trains. Pc Dan Smith said there had been an increase in such incidents over the past few months which had escalated in seriousness.

“Obstructing trains is unfathomably stupid and incredibly dangerous,” he said. “I urge parents to check where their teenagers are and remind them of the potential consequences and obvious dangers of hanging around near railway lines.” He continued: “Rail staff are there to do a job. Any abuse directed at them is a crime and will be dealt with as such, regardless of the age of the offender.”

The latest community grants, totalling £3,000, have been presented by Beverley’s Tesco supermarket. The store’s community champion Dave Ryley told Beverley FM the largest amount, £1,500, had gone to the British Red Cross for distribution to people in crisis in the Beverley area. 

East Riding Voluntary Action Services received £1,000 for a project at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield, where school pupils are developing an outdoor garden and £500 was donated to Cherry Burton Primary School to support its Forest School project.

And finally, police are inviting residents of Beverley’s Grovehill Road area to attend a meeting on Friday April 8th in St Nicholas Church Hall to discuss any ongoing concerns. The meeting starts at 7pm.
