Children’s services across the East Riding, aspects of which were rated as “inadequate” by Ofsted three years ago, have now improved, according to reports following the latest inspection. This was the third visit by Ofsted since 2019, when inspectors had rated children and young people’s safeguarding and support services as inadequate. 

The commitment of East Riding Council through additional investment was acknowledged following the most recent inspection. Ofsted also reported that children in residential placements were making “good progress” and highlighted “significant” improvement in private fostering. Cllr Victoria Aitken, portfolio holder for children and young people’s education, health and wellbeing, told Beverley FM: “This Ofsted monitoring visit confirms that we are travelling in the right direction and while there is still further work to do we are pleased with what has been achieved so far.”

Beverley Town Council has approved proposals to put the running of Beverley Food Festival and the Beverley Christmas Festival of Food and Drink out to tender. As reported by Beverley FM, both were previously organised directly by the council but have not been held for the past two years because of the pandemic.

The tendering decision was rubber-stamped at this week’s full council meeting. It’s planned for the food festival will be held in Saturday Market on Sunday October 2 with the Christmas Festival of Food and Drink in the Minster on Saturday November 19.

And finally, a vacancy exists on Cherry Burton Parish Council following the resignation of a councillor, which will be filled by co-option unless at least 10 parishioners demand a by-election by the deadline of April 5.
