Beverley mum Katie Cottingham, who sadly lost her young son Ryan to a rare form of pancreatic cancer in June of last year, is planning a special event next month to mark what would have been his third birthday. She’s calling it Ryan’s Memory Day and it will take place at the Armstrongs Centre in Beverley on Saturday April 23, raising money for the charity Candlelighters in the process.

The event will include a raffle, sunflower planting, an Easter crafts table for children, tombola and other activities. A memory table with photos and keepsakes of Ryan will also be set up on the day. The event will take place between 11am and 2pm.

The Mayor of Beverley’s fund-raising “Party in Pink”, which was due to take place in the Memorial Hall on April 2, has had to be cancelled, with the council saying the rise in Covid cases locally has affected ticket sales. To date, only 20 tickets had been sold, which would have meant the charity event would run at a loss.

The news follows the cancellation of the Mayor’s Civic Service last weekend because the Mayor herself, Cllr Linda Johnson, and others had tested positive for Covid; although she has since recovered and resumed duties yesterday.

And finally, Beverley’s White Rabbit chocolatiers is “going green” by replacing its packaging with a bespoke environmentally-friendly version. Master Chocolatier Amy Fenner said: “A lot of love goes into each and every one of our products. We decided now is the time to make sure our packaging not only looks great, but is also kind to the planet, so we’ve made a conscious move towards using recycled, recyclable or natural materials.”
