A week-long special operation by Humberside Police, working with other Forces across the country, resulted in 49 arrests of people suspected of being involved in County Lines drug dealing and the exploitation of children into organised crime. During the operation, eight weapons and approximately £48,000 in cash was seized. In addition, £5,000 of cocaine, 250 wraps of crack and heroin, and a large quantity of pills were also discovered.

Det Chief Insp Simon Vickers told Beverley FM: “We linked up with counterparts in West Yorkshire and Merseyside in a combined operation to tackle organised criminality which is bringing drugs into our area through County Lines operations. It’s really important that these people are taken off our streets. At the heart of County Lines gangs are exploited and vulnerable adults and children.”

Crew from Beverley Fire Station raised more than £3,500 on Saturday for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Appeal by pulling a 17-ton fire engine around the town. Officers praised the generosity of Beverlonians and the reception they had received. Beverley FM Breakfast Show presenter Alex Dunn followed their progress and has posted a video, which can be viewed on our Facebook page.

And finally, those taking part in a free Sing For Ukraine vocal workshop organised by the All For One choir and being held at Beverley Minster on April 1, are being urged to dress in blue and yellow. The choir’s director, Helen Garnett, told us: “This workshop is aimed at beginners to intermediate singers and you do not have to read music in order to participate. At the end of this session, we hope to have completed a selection of well-known poignant classics.”
