After another emphatic win against Salford over the weekend 32 – 12 Rovers embark on sealing one of the best seasons in recent years.
Hull Kingston Rovers’ wait of nearly four decades for a major trophy now feels within touching distance of ending but a formidable obstacle stands in their way: Wigan Warriors. This week will end with an attempt to topple the famous cherry-and-white shirted club, just like Rovers did so memorably to win the Challenge Cup semi-final in 2023. Realistically, winning the League Leaders’ Shield and Grand Final could require the slaying of that giant of a club on two occasions.
But this is the type of week that dreams are made of. When players pick up a rugby ball, take to the fields and find their love of the game, the finest visions are ones of one day overcoming big clubs in big games, of becoming heroes. Rovers players are living that out for real right now. This is not a case of rocking up to work for a lower-ladder, meaningless fixture with no chance of silverware.
