PR: Millwall vs Hull City

We welcome Liam Rosenior back to Hull City as Head Coach. A very intelligent man who excelled as a player and now has a growing reputation as a bright young coach. His time at Brighton and the adversity he faced at Derby will prove invaluable to his learning. We wish him well.

The Past
Our first contest was in 1928 which ended 0-0. We have met 68 times. Millwall has won 24 times, City 25 with 19 draws. 11 matches have ended 2-1. We have had some epic battles with Millwall in the 1960s as we both chased promotion. Crowds of 40,000+ in attendance.

Millwall brought circa 7,000 fans to Boothferry Park in 1988 and celebrated promotion to the top flight with a conga on the pitch. This was relatively good-natured. However, our FA Cup match at the Circle in 2009 was marred by crowd trouble, before, during and after the game. Seats, coins, bottles and even the metal seat rails were thrown from the away end at the home fans. Fighting inside and outside the ground all the way back to Paragon Station.

The Present
Millwall will look to maintain their incredibly strong home form 21 points from 9 games. The Lions have won their last four in a row at The Den.

City have at least won their last two away games and scored 7 goals in doing so.

Gary Rowett’s side are formidable in the air and at set pieces. They have scored 14 goals from corners free kicks and throw-ins so far.

So our new Head Coach has a tough task in his first game. He has to stop the schoolboy errors in defence to give us a chance of a draw at least. We have conceded an incredible five own-goals already this season. Every defender has scored in his own net, except Greaves, although his soft penalty versus Birmingham City was tantamount to an own goal.

Up front, we need to keep the ball on the ground and get in behind the defenders. We need to be slicker with our passing and commit more in the box.

Respect to all of those travelling to Bermondsey, when money is tight. Let’s hope that we get fireworks on the pitch (not literally) and a rocket from Oscar to win it.

Prediction: Millwall 0-1 Hull City
Millwall have injuries and a suspension, meaning four players are out. Add in the impact of our New Head Coach and I hope we can win.

My starting line-up would be: Baxter; Coyle (C), Greaves, McLoughlin, Fleming; Slater, Tufan, Seri, Christie, Docherty; Oscar.
