Hull City 0-1 Blackburn

Hull City suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against high-flying Blackburn Rovers at the MKM Stadium.

Sammie Szmodics’ first-half finish was enough to secure the visitors all three points in the EFL Championship.

Interim Head Coach Andy Dawson named an unchanged team from the one that defeated Rotherham United 4-2 last time out.

Chances were a premium in the opening quarter of an hour as Adam Wharton blazed a chance over the bar for Blackburn before Ryan Longman narrowly missed a through ball played by Alfie Jones.

Nathan Baxter produced a good save to deny Szomdics before Jean Michaël Seri’s brilliant challenge denied Ben Brereton Díaz a shooting opportunity from the rebound.

On the 15th minute, Blackburn took the lead as a lovely threaded through ball by Adam Wharton found the run of Szmodics, who drilled in a low left-footed strike into the bottom corner.

Sam Gallagher searched for the visitors’ second minutes later, but his effort was blocked by Tobias Figueiredo. At the other end, Ryan Longman came close to levelling the scores for the Tigers as Regan Slater whipped in a great cross towards the back post, but a sliding Longman narrowly missed the delivery.

The Tigers kept pushing for the equaliser as Seri picked out the unmarked Jacob Greaves, who volleyed narrowly wide Kaminski’s left-hand post. At the other end, Baxter held two attempts as the first half ended.
