North Ferriby 2-0 Knaresborough

North Ferriby put their midweek disappointment behind them with a 2-0 home win over Knaresborough Town.

Returning from injury, Josh Whiteley netted both goals, his first since returning to the club from Australia, keeping the Villagers top of the table and five points clear of second-placed Emley.

After plenty of chances went Ferriby’s way, including some good saves from the Knaresborough keeper, Whiteley’s first was a simple tap-in after some good work from fellow frontman Danny Earl.

The opportunities kept coming and Ferriby, who had plenty of possession and played some slick stuff in the first half, could have extended their 1-0 advantage before the break.

After a tight start to the second half, Whiteley got his second goal and the result was beyond doubt. It was a brilliant finish into the bottom corner after a superb lofted pass from Jamie Forrester.

The game was then managed well until full-time, if a little scrappy, with Ferriby keeping their healthy position at the top of the NCEL Premier Division table.

“We’re delighted with the three points,” Ferriby manager Chris Bolder said after the game. “Those first 35 minutes is probably as well as we have played in a good number of games.

“The second half was a strange non-entity really. We did have some chances to extend our lead but it was a gritty performance.”
