It was a familiar tale of playing short this weekend. With Jamie Chilcott absent, Bobby Streetly and Ross Connolly injured, Hull were left with only three available D-men. Lee Pollitt deputised at the back and did an excellent job.

The first period was tightly contested by both sides after the Sheffield Steeldogs scored two early goals. The Hull Seahawks were able to pull a goal back and keep the ‘Dogs within ‘arms reach’. At the beginning of the second third, both teams pushed hard for bragging rights in the local derby and this was evident from the array of penalties given to both teams. In the mix of this the tension between Hull’s Hamill and Sheffield’s Brammer came to bursting point. Their fight did little to dissipate the intensity of the clash and the game became strewn with penalties. At the end of the second period, the score was 3-1 to the Steeldogs but with Hull still looking competitive and capable of turning the match around.
In the third period, the Hull Seahawks were able to score a goal to bring themselves within one goal of the Steeldogs but were unable to maintain any momentum, which resulted in the Steeldogs scoring another. In the dying minutes, the Seahawks were able to maintain pressure on the Steeldogs after Matt Davies withdrew his netminder to try and earn their first points of the league campaign. Unfortunately, the Steeldogs scored an empty-netter and in a gripping game, Sheffield emerged as deserved victors but credit to Hull too for such a compelling display.
