Hull City fell to a 2-0 defeat at the John Smith Stadium against Huddersfield Town.

An own goal in the first half by Lewie Coyle and headed finish by Michał Helik in the second 45 minutes saw the Terriers secure all three points in the EFL Championship.

Interim Head Coach Andy Dawson made just the one change to his starting XI to the one that secured victory over Wigan Athletic last time out, with Ryan Longman coming in for Doğukan Sinik, who was named on the bench.

Dimitrios Pelkas had the first opportunity of the game as Longman won possession against Jack Rudoni high up the pitch, but the Greek international fired his chance over the bar. Tom Lees then tested Nathan Baxter with a poked effort that was held by the Chelsea loanee before Longman and Pelkas both saw opportunities go off-target.

Sorba Thomas aimed to get his sixth assist of the season as his corner delivery was aimed for the front post, but Lees’ finish went narrowly wide past Baxter’s left-hand post.

On the 29th minute, Huddersfield took the lead as Etienne Camara’s cross was diverted by Lewie Coyle into the back of his own net. Óscar Estupiñán looked to get the Tigers back on level terms, but his attempt from range was high and wide.

Good build-up play between Pelkas and Callum Elder saw the latter drill a low cross towards the front post. The ball was cleared into the path of Longman, but his first-time effort was blocked by a sliding Helik.

In first-half stoppage time, Longman wasted a great opportunity to put the Tigers level as Coyle released the winger through on goal with a delicate chipped pass, but Longman could only drag the chance narrowly wide of the post.
