Batchelor joins the Robins for 2023

Hull KR have finally confirmed the capture of James Batchelor, on a two-year deal from next season until the end of 2024

Batchelor has been one of Super League’s in-form back-rowers this season, amassing over 1,500 metres with 28 tackle busts as a leading force for Wakefield Trinity.

The 24-year-old will look to build on his form next season and link up with former Wakefield teammate, George King to bolster the Robins’ formidable engine room for 2023.

Since making his Super League debut for Trinity against Warrington Wolves in 2016, Batchelor has gone on to make 90 Super League appearances for his hometown club, scoring 13 tries in the process.

A devastating line runner with a relentless work rate in attack and defence, Batchelor provides another dangerous option within the Robins’ pack next season. Bachelor is the Robins fifth new signing for next season as the Willie Peters’ finalises his squad for 2023.

Sadly, the former Crigglestone All Black’s season has been cut short due to a hamstring injury suffered in Wakefield’s win over Wigan last weekend.

However, Batchelor is excited to get started with the Robins for 2023: “After speaking to Willie (Peters) and a few of the boys I already know like Jez (Litten) and George (King), I was sold on the move.

“I’m at that point in my career where it’s not only about playing consistently, week-in week-out, but challenging myself and getting out of my comfort zone.

“It’s going to be something new, I’m excited for some Friday night games in front of the fans at Sewell Group Craven Park. It’s always been a great atmosphere every time I’ve played at Hull KR.

“I want to really kick on at KR and be challenging for things every year. I want to win some silverware. I think we can do something special as a team.

“Leaving my hometown team after so many years was tough and I wanted to make sure I was making the right decision. I spoke to Willie about the club, himself and how he wants to play and within ten minutes he’d sold me on it.

“I think how Willie (Peters) wants us to play and what he values as a coach is exactly the environment I want to be a part of.”

Peters was delighted to sign Batchelor up until the end of 2025: “I’m extremely happy with the signing of James Batchelor.

“James is the type of player I value as a coach, tough, gritty, resilient. I truly believe James will represent England in the future providing he maintains the worth ethic and hunger he currently displays.”
