APPLICATIONS are being invited for funding of up to £5,000 for tree-planting schemes in the East Riding. The money is available for creating new areas of native woodland, planting new clusters of native trees, or establishing new individual native standard trees.

East Riding Council says there are no restrictions on who can apply for a grant and it’s envisaged applications will be received from a range of individuals and groups such as private and public landowners, farmers and land managers, community groups, businesses, community organisations, charities, Town & Parish Councils, schools and faith groups.

As well as the East Riding Community Tree Planting Fund, the council says additional help is available from the Humber Forest community forest scheme of up to 100 per cent of the total cost. For more information on the Humber Forest, visit www.humberforest,org or contact humber.forest@eastriding.gov.uk

For applications to the East Riding of Yorkshire Community Tree Planting Fund, applications to the fund should be made through the online FlexiGrant system, available at https://eastridingofyorkshirecouncil.flexigrant.com

BEVERLEY charity Jacob’s Well has now sent a total of 24 HGV lorry loads of aid to Ukraine, totalling more than £6 million. Office manager Bridget Conroy says the next shipment is due in a couple of weeks and help is urgently needed for hygiene items, nappies and food. In addition, the charity has also sent aid to a hospital in Cameroon and a container of aid, including a tractor, to a school the charity supports in Burkina Faso.

This Saturday, Jacob’s Well holds its latest Warehouse Sale to raise funds. It’s at their warehouse in Swinemoor Lane (behind Aldi) from 9am – 1pm.
